Interlude - WEEK 10 : Game Dev & Life Balance? - Offline Progression Feature
[DEVLOG] Week 10
Game Dev & Life Balance
Having rules is important
Avoiding burnout and having a healthy life style should be on your mind at all times when entering a hobby like game development.
Especially if you have other stuff going on in your life, such as a full-time job or a family.
I try to average (over the week or the month) at least 1 hour a day and at most 2 hours a day - having both a lower and an upper limit works like yin and yang. Lower limit is the key for consistency. On the other hand, if I relax the upper limit, I catch myself neglecting other obligations or hobbies and losing sleep.
Another key advice is a proper schedule. Be careful at what point of the day you put in your game development hours. You do not want to disrupt the activities that follow after.
These advices are nicely explained in the following video.
Equally important is having a proper plan. See my week 6 devlog on this topic.
Breaking the rules
This week, I took a vacation. ๐ด
But, I still could not help myself and had to finish the Offline Progression feature at the same time.

Great advice to have a personal upper limit!
Btw, when's the next Pew Pew update? ๐
I've been on a bit of a balancing act with my job and holidays in-between, but I'm aiming for the end of next week to release the next build :)
